There is a prophecy that your child will achieve greatness and have an everlasting legacy, but will suffer and die young. Your child knows of the prophecy, and wants their destiny. You have the choice to undo the prophecy.  Your child will instead have a long, mediocre life, but never forgive you. 

Efficiency-oriented economic policy centers on reducing prices and maximizing output by allocating production according to where a comparative advantage exists (e.g., lowering barriers to trade and investment, removing regulations that impede competition). Resilience-oriented economic policy sacrifices efficiency in order to build redundancies in the event of economic shocks (e.g., subsidizing domestic production, restricting trade of key technologies with adversaries, building national reserves).

For the purpose of this debate, there are two tropes in children's media.

"Disney optimism" presents a world with

1. clear good and evil

2. wherein good always triumphs.

"Ghibli optimism" presents a world with

1. no true evil and morality is subjective

2. where peaceful compromise is ultimately possible where neither side necessarily triumphs.

On April 3rd, Hualien, Taiwan was hit with a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, its strongest in 25 years. This has resulted in sizeable casualties (a dozen deaths and thousands that are injured, trapped in mountaineous terrains). The region is facing infrastructural damage that's disrupted people's businesses and the government's ability to provide advanced state services to all. Amidst this, China has offered Taiwan disaster relief assistance, with it being rejected by Taiwan due to the two's hostile geopolitical tensions.

Anyone carrying out a major construction project has to apply for a resource consent. To get a resource consent, a project must recognise and account for possible effects on the environment, nearby communities, and Māori. Rather than local council considering the application and granting the resource consent, a fast track approvals process allows companies to apply to a group of three Cabinet Ministers instead. The Ministers get recommendations from a group of experts, but make the decision themselves. It is also more difficult to appeal the decision in court.
